A short history of Jane Music

jane.nailed.org was an FTP site providing MP3s of live Crowded House, Neil Finn and related rarities, B-sides and live shows.

It was opened in March 2000, running on a dialup modem coinnection in Hamilton, New Zealand. (not 30km from the birthplace of the Brothers Finn.) Hosted on a machine named "jane" (after the Barenaked Ladies song) and accessed via dynamic-DNS as 'jane.nailed.org', the site developed a small following amongst Finn fans from around the world.

Starting with an MP3 copy of a friend's Fleadh bootleg and various tracks culled from Crowded House singles, users started uploading and downloading bootlegs. Today, the collection has grown tenfold.

Today - things you need to know

Jane Music is the more modern equivalent, hosted on a capped connection in New Zealand. There are several gigs of MP3s in the collection, plus assorted video and other files.
